Also available on Youtube and Google Video if you like squinting at low resolution video.

More: The dudes at Puddlegum made their own Songbird screencast using the Mac version of Songbird. They show some features we didn't highlight such as contextual search.

Yet More: Koshi's UI mini-screencasts: Collapsing Splitters and List Columns.

Kayne Says:

Wow, really nice!
Personally, I had no idea that Songbird is this feature rich as of now! This looks really promising for the future.

You guys will create a new music trend on the web!

MonkeyFit Says:

Wow. That last line was awesomely retarded.

jkoshi Says:

Yeah the guy who does voice-overs for the movies was unavailable.

Vanya Says:

Seems like a minor oversight to post a screencast of a cross platform app in a format that only certain platforms can access. Sorry to gripe but I'm disappointed.

chase Says:

Oh, you won't be dissapointed. It's "Da bomb"... that's what the cool kids say.

elmargol Says:

Hi I thing your script has a bug. I can't watch the screencast becouse your script thinks that I don't have flash.

jkoshi Says:

Please post your platform/browser and we'll see what we can do.

elmargol Says:

Does it support lyrics plugins similar to amarok? Is it python/ruby/JavaScript scriptable? (like amarok) Does it have Wikipedia integration and iPod support (like amarok)?

Ok, ok, ok. This was a bit of amarok merchandise, but I'm asking because if it dose, I might switch. Amarok 2.0 will be available for Windows and OS X, too. But it's still a long time till then. And the integrated browser and video playback are allready features amarok doesn't have!

Does songbird use VLC, xine, mplayer or just ffmpeg for playback?

ErikStaats Says:

There's an iPod extension at http://www.windjay.com/ipodsupport.html and a wikipedia extension option is presented when Songbird is first installed.

ki4lyd Says:

mates, that thing is amazing! I used iTunes before, but i switched to Songbird now, and I like it! SWEEET!

shmooth Says:

good deal.

Ursus Says:

Looks nice.

I won't be forced to import everything to the library will I? Man I hate that... I've got my MP3s on multiple network shares already sorted, and I don't want/need to manage client-side databases.

Rip capabilities?

Commercial codecs?

jan Says:

i really hope, that mozilla installs the gecko engine on system level at some point in the future. many firefox users use thunderbird, now some will want to use songbird too.. running the gecko engine three times sounds not too clever, i thought running gecko on system level could speed up things!

richhobo46 Says:

I just downloaded Songbird and love it's features but when I go to play a song from one the mp3blogs (i.e singingfish) it wont let me play it. I click on it and it says in the player bar thing O:00 sec and I hit play and no time passes by. I can also copy the song into my library but it wont play there either

Abstract: United States firms in the early 20th century were subject to public and private regulation. Forms of regulation included rate regulation and stock exchange listing requirements. These regulations created incentives to report income statement information. This study utilizes the 1915 Moody's Analyses of special education parents
Investments to test whether regulated firms in the United States gaming nevada
reported more income statement information than family advantage credit union
unregulated firms. Rate regulation influenced utilities to report income statements more frequently than industrial companies

khesae Says:

I just went on download.com and stumbled along Songbird. I've been quite happy with iTunes, until now - this program is just amazing. But whenever I try to look at the screencast I wait for ages and NOTHING happens. Why is this so?
Please email: lachie27@gmail.com
I'm extremely happy with Songbird - it's beautiful.

Lupe T. Says:

Songbird is a dream. I'll never go back to iTunes or Windows Media Player. It's great to finally be able to customize everything, and there are some really smart features. I look forward to all the progress that will undoubtedly be made on Songbird. Well done.

thomaslikespigs Says:

songbird 0.2.5 doesn't pick this video up as media. i would've expected it to be tested with its own page...

abramovschlozman Says:

I'll sum this "Songbird" player nicely-

Hello, I'm (insert name here) and I'm here to promote my new program, Songbird. It's basically a complete copy off iTunes with the exact same trademark user interface but with a pitiful excuse for a Firefox search bar to find MP3s off random peoples blogs because, hell, we're all too cheap to pay 99 cents for a song.

It's a pity.

soaro77 Says:

Hmmm, how do you propose to use iTunes and pay the 99 cents for a song on Linux? Or do you forget there are other OS's out there besides Windows?

mpruk Says:

The songs available in blogs are probably not available on iTunes, and the songs on iTunes are probably not available in blogs. Given, for that extra 99 cents you could get a song that will play in only one software media player (iTunes) and one portable media player(iPod). Plus, you'll never have the confusion of moving it to another computer. You can just buy it again! Also, in iTunes defense, like most Apple software, you'll never have to worry about being confused/frustrated with a customizable user interface or features of any kind, beyond the bare minimum.

misterc Says:

clearly you haven't even bothered to use songbird.

sickjester4 Says:

Whilst I'm downloading, just wanted to say, cool website.

mabank Says:

A lot of features. But I don't want another instance of gecko running just for this stupid mp3 blogsite stuff. If someone would make it possible to uninstall the complete gecko engine and remove all this stuff (probably reducing memory consumption from 35MB to less than 10MB) I might give it a 2nd try.
But atm I consider this simply bloatware.
btw: It should be possible to minimize to taskbar and the video player window needs some love ;-)

rschiffb Says:

awesome program, cant wait to use it, ive been watching it for over 5 months now and im getting really antsy for its realease. keep up the hard work brave soldier-birds

neeneko Says:

You kinda lost me at 'your myspace profile' ;p say a lot about user assumptions.

Kidding aside, this really has a 'going forward to the web' feel to it (obviously) but I wonder, how well does it handle 'going backward' data.. i.e. files without rich metadata (such as having information encoded in file and directory names)? I am not seeing any kind of hierarchal organizational option.. just lots single depth lists.

Urban Dropz Says:

Is there a way to deal with the issue of available horizontal screen space when browsing? The browser window has horizontal scroll bars which can be cumbersome to use.

Just a thought.

Urban Dropz Says:

Can Songbird be included as a stand alone application? For example, could it be included as an app on a hard drive so users could run through the music contained on the drive? If so, could it be loaded onto the drive with playlists and such created... easy to open and use?
